Every year millions of couples experience infertility in some form. Doctors spend a great deal of time running tests on both partners to try and figure out why a couple is not conceiving. Sometimes there is nothing that can be done and the couple has to learn to deal with the disappointment of not having children of their own. Other times the infertility experienced by a couple is only temporary.

Having trouble conceiving a child can bring a great deal of stress to a relationship. Couples tend to allow this stress to affect the atmosphere between them as well as the atmosphere around them. This can make conceiving even more difficult. No matter if the infertility you are experiencing is permanent or temporary there are ways to combat the stress caused by it.

First, always remember not to lay blame. If you or your partner starts to blame yourself or each other this is only going to cause your stress level to rise. No one chooses to be infertile and it is a very difficult thing to deal with when you are going through infertility. Do your best to be supportive of each other.

Write down all your thoughts and feelings as you are going through them. Buy a journal and keep it close so you can put your feelings in writing while they are fresh. Share what you are comfortable sharing with those who love and support you. They may help you put things in perspective when the emotions threaten to overcome you.

It is important to take time for yourself. Get away from work and family and friends. Go for a walk or a drive to a special place and just relax for a while. If you wish, take your journal with you and write down the things you see and experience that help you relax. This is good for you to go back and reference when you start feeling tense. It can be a starting point for a meditation.

Meditate in a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Use low lighting and a fragrant candle to help you get in the mood. Think of a place or moment in time that makes you happy and begin your meditation there. There are thousands of books about different meditation techniques. Find the one that best suits you and use it often.

Take your partner out for a romantic evening once in a while. The two of you need to spend some quality time together without talking or thinking about conceiving. Agree ahead of time that this will not be a night in which you work on conceiving. Instead hold each other and talk about your relationship or something that you both enjoy doing.

Go out with friends. Keep your social life busy. Do those things you really enjoy doing and find new ways to enjoy them. There just might come a day when you have to turn down your friends' invitations because you have a colicky baby.

Take care of yourself. Eat right and exercise. Keep your body in shape and your emotional state will not deteriorate. If your doctor has not put you on pre-natal vitamins ask him about them. These will help your body ready for the baby that will hopefully eventually come. They will also provide those extra nutrients that a woman's body so often misses out on.

Buy yourself that special outfit you've been wanting. You don't have to spend all your money on baby things yet, so enjoy spending it on yourself. Encourage your partner to do the same thing.

Indulge in a day of beauty. Go to the salon and get a make over. Have them do your nails, give you a massage, and a facial. Just let them swoon over you for a day. You'll feel refreshed and more relaxed after letting someone take care of you for a while.

Do not obsess over trying to conceive. This is very difficult, but the more you try to force it to happen the more difficult it will become to conceive. It is not easy to let things flow naturally, but that is very important thing to do. Nature will take its course when the time is right. And if it doesn't, always remember there are a lot of children out there who need a family desperately. They may not be your bloodline, but they will still be your own.
